ST. GEORGE, ME – Bowman Constructors is proud to announce the successful
completion of the GRACE Innovation Center, the first Career and Technical Education (CTE) / Makerspace building in the nation designed specifically for Pre-K through 8th grade students. As the General Contractor for this groundbreaking project, Bowman is honored to have played a role in bringing this visionary educational space to life for the St. George community.
Built adjacent to the St. George Municipal School Unit, the GRACE Innovation Center
represents a bold leap forward in how hands-on, technical education can be introduced to students at an early age. The 3,500-square-foot facility includes specialized areas for woodworking, metalwork, boat-building, and a high-tech makerspace featuring 3D printers, CNC machines, robotics, and laser cutters—tools typically reserved for high school or college-level programs.
“We’re proud to have delivered a project that doesn’t just serve students—it sets a new national precedent,” said Brian Bowman, President of Bowman Constructors. “St. George’s vision, paired with our team’s commitment to quality and collaboration, created something truly special for this community.”
The GRACE Innovation Center was developed in direct response to local demand for more hands-on, skills-based learning opportunities, and it stands as a physical embodiment of St. George’s educational values: creativity, craftsmanship, and community engagement. The facility also reflects extensive coordination between
Bowman Constructors, design partners, school leadership, and local stakeholders
throughout every phase of construction.
As General Contractor, Bowman managed all site work, building construction, and
subcontractor coordination. From navigating ledge conditions during foundation work to ensuring a safe, functional, and inspiring learning environment, the Bowman team
prioritized quality, safety, and schedule at every step. Merriam Architects, based in
Rockland, Maine, served as the architect of record, bringing a strong track record in
educational design and a deep understanding of the local community.
